Changes to New York Wage Notice Requirements Take Effect: Employment Law Manual Updated

Author: Rena Pirsos, XpertHR Legal Editor

Under a new law effective January 1, 2015, New York employers are no longer required to annually notify all employees about their rate of pay, allowances, pay day, etc., and obtain their written acknowledgement of receipt of the notice. However, the law does not relieve employers of the requirements to provide such notices to (i) all newly hired employees within 10 days of their hire date, and (ii) all employees any time their pay-related information changes. The new law also increased employer noncompliance penalties and damages, especially for repeat offenders.

The Payment of Wages: New York section of the Employment Law Manual has been updated accordingly.
