Connecticut Amends Paid Sick Leave Law: Employment Law Manual Updated, Legal Timetable Added

Author: Gloria Ju

Connecticut has amended its paid sick leave law, changing the determination of employer coverage. The law currently applies to employers that employ 50 or more employees in the state in one quarter in the previous year and is determined annually on January 1. Effective January 1, 2015, the amended law requires the 50-employee threshold to be determined annually based on the number of employees on the payroll as of October 1. The amended law defines year to mean any 365-day period used by an employer to calculate employee benefits. Further, an employer will be prohibited from terminating or transferring an employee solely to avoid qualifying as a covered employer. Finally, the amended law adds radiologic technologists to the list of covered employees.

In light of these changes, Connecticut's FMLA and Other Leaves sections of the Employment Law Manual have been updated and a Legal Timetable entry has been added.
