Eugene, Oregon, Delays Enforcement of Paid Sick Leave Law: Employment Law Manual, Quick Reference Chart Updated

In July 2014, the City of Eugene, Oregon, passed a paid sick leave ordinance with a July 1, 2015, implementation date. However, a statewide paid sick leave bill is pending in the Oregon legislature, which, if passed, would prevent enforcement of Eugene's law. In response, Eugene has delayed enforcement of its paid sick leave law until January 1, 2016. While employees will begin accruing paid sick time on July 1, employers will not face civil penalties for noncompliance until next year.
