Indiana Amends Service Letter Statute: Employment Law Manual Updated

Author: Marta Moakley, XpertHR Legal Editor

Indiana has amended its service letter statute, which currently requires an employer to provide a former employee (upon his or her request) with a signed letter detailing the nature and character of service rendered by the employee, the duration of the service and a truthful statement of the cause for the termination (e.g., the employee quit). Effective July 1, 2014, the amendments will lessen the amount of information that an employer must disclose and will repeal the statute's penalty provision.

As a result, the Employee Communications: Indiana section of the Employment Law Manual has been updated.
