Indiana to Allow Hiring Preferences for Veterans: Employment Law Manual Updated

Authors: Beth P. Zoller and David B. Weisenfeld, XpertHR Legal Editors

A new Indiana law, effective July 1, 2015, will allow private employers to implement a veterans preference employment policy providing preference to covered veterans over another qualified applicant or employee when it comes to decisions regarding hiring, promotion or retention during a reduction in force without violating state and local fair employment laws.

Based on this development, the Indiana EEO-Affirmative Action and Recruiting sections of the Employment Law Manual have been amended.
