Authors: David B. Weisenfeld and Beth P. Zoller
Maryland has become the 21st state to pass a law legalizing medical marijuana with a measure signed by Governor Martin O'Malley that becomes effective on June 1. The state also has decriminalized marijuana possession for up to 10 grams, with such possession becoming a civil offense.
The following Maryland sections of the Employment Law Manual have been updated to reflect these developments:
- Recruiting and Hiring > Preemployment Screening and Testing;
- Employee Management > Privacy
- Employee Management > Employee Handbooks - Work Rules - Employee Conduct
In addition, the chart Marijuana Laws by State also has been updated to include Maryland.
