Massachusetts Expands Maternity Leave Law to Cover Fathers: Employment Law Manual Updated

Author: Gloria Ju

Amendments to the Massachusetts Maternity Leave Act (MMLA) will expand parental leave rights to cover male employees and to provide for leave for the placement of a child under a court order. The MMLA currently applies only to female employees and to leave for the birth or adoption of a child. These and other amendments will take effect April 7, 2015.

In light of this development, the Massachusetts FMLA and Other Leaves sections of the Employment Law Manual have been updated. Plus, a Legal Timetable entry has been added.
