The arrival of a new year has brought changes to the minimum wage requirements in many states and municipalities.

The Employment Law Manual has been updated for Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, Ohio, Oregon, and Washington, where the minimum wage increased as a result of annual inflation adjustments; for Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont and West Virginia, where the minimum wage increased as a result of legislation; and in three states, Arkansas, Nebraska and South Dakota, where the minimum wage increased as a result of ballot initiatives.

The Employment Law Manual also was updated to reflect the minimum wage either increasing or taking effect for the first time in five municipalities - Albuquerque, New Mexico; Bernalillo County, New Mexico; Las Cruces, New Mexico; Richmond, California; and San Jose, California.

In addition to changes in the basic minimum wage rates, changes also took effect in several states involving the minimum wages for tipped employees, credits for meals and lodging, subminimum wages and more. There also were changes to the minimum salaries required for minimum wage and overtime exemptions in New York.
