Missouri Amends Unemployment Insurance Law: Employment Law Manual Updated, Legal Timetable Entry Added

Author: Tracy Morley, XpertHR Legal Editor

Missouri has amended the maximum duration during which an individual may collect unemployment insurance (UI) benefits per year. Currently, the Employment Security Law allows an individual to collect UI benefits for up to 20 weeks. Beginning January 1, 2016, the duration of benefits will be based on a sliding scale based on the state's average unemployment rate. For example, an individual may collect up to a high of 20 weeks if the rate is 9% or higher, down to a low of 13 weeks if the rate is below 6%.

In light of this development, the Legally Required Benefits: Missouri section of the Employment Law Manual has been updated and a Legal Timetable entry has been added.
