Montana's Military Service Law and Utah's Antidiscrimination Law Amended: Handbook Statements Updated

Authors: Melissa Burdorf and Tracy Morley, XpertHR Legal Editors

Montana's Military Service Employment Rights Act was changed to include National Guard members in other states who are employed in Montana; to include definitions related to member and state military duty; and to update the job reinstatement process upon return from military duty. These changes took effect April 29, 2015.

Additionally, effective May 12, 2015, amendments to Utah's antidiscrimination act prohibit discrimination and harassment against lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender individuals and against nursing mothers in the workplace.

In light of the amended laws, the Military Leave Handbook Statement: Montana and the EEO Handbook Statement: Utah have been updated. Employers with employees in these states should use these revised statements in their handbook.
