A new law in Milwaukee County, WI, effective July 1, 2014, will prohibit discrimination based on gender identity and expression. It covers individuals who work in Milwaukee County and individuals who work for employers doing business with the county. Additionally, Topeka, KS, has enacted an ordinance establishing a registry that will be open to both same- sex and opposite-sex couples who are not married, effective June 30, 2014, as well as an ordinance prohibiting discrimination on the basis of gender identity in city employment and hiring, effective January 1, 2015.

The EEO - Discrimination: Wisconsin and EEO - Discrimination: Kansas sections of the Employment Law Manual have been updated to reflect these new developments as well as the EEO Protected Classes by State and Municipality chart and LGBT Rights by State chart.
