New Nebraska Payment of Wages Requirements: Employment Law Manual Updated

Author: Rena Pirsos, XpertHR Legal Editor

The current wage payment law in Nebraska requires an employer to provide a pay statement to an employee only if the employee requests it in writing, and within 10 days of the request. Effective July 18, 2014, new amendments to this law will require an employer to provide a pay statement to all employees on payday. The amended law specifies the methods by which an employer may provide the pay statements and the information that must be included on them. Exempt employees are excluded from this requirement under certain circumstances.

Effective January 1, 2015, an employer that satisfies certain conditions will be permitted to pay employees via payroll debit cards. Current law is silent on this issue.

The Payment of Wages: Nebraska section of the Employment Law Manual has been updated in the Wage Payment Methods and Future Developments subsections to reflect these changes.
