New York City Issues Guidance on Gender Identity Discrimination and Enacts Law Protecting Caregivers: Employment Law Manual Updated, Legal Timetable Entry Added

The New York City Commission on Human Rights recently released guidance interpreting the city's regulations with respect to gender identity discrimination. The guidance covers issues such as the use of pronouns, restrooms, sex stereotyping, uniforms, and accommodation requests. It is effective immediately.

In addition, on January 5, 2016, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio signed a bill prohibiting employers from discriminating against employees based on their actual or perceived status as a caregiver, which will take effect on May 4, 2016.

Based on these developments, the following sections of the New York Employment Law Manual have been updated:
