New York City Paid Sick Leave Rules Released: Employment Law Manual Updated

The New York City Department of Consumer Affairs has released final rules for the New York City Earned Sick Time Act. The rules cover numerous aspects of the law, which took effect April 1, including:

  • New businesses;
  • Joint employment;
  • Domestic workers;
  • Minimum leave usage;
  • Rate of pay;
  • Timing of sick time pay;
  • Sale or acquisition of a business;
  • Employee and employer notice requirements; and
  • Employee documentation requirements.

In light of this development, the following New York sections of the Employment Law Manual have been updated: Employee Handbooks - Work Rules - Employee Conduct and Other Leaves.
