Effective April 1, 2014, or upon the expiration of a current collective bargaining agreement (if applicable), whichever is later, an amended paid sick leave law requires a private employer in New York City with five or more employees (prior law had to have at least 15 employees) to provide an eligible employee with paid sick leave. This amended law also adds other family members (i.e., grandparents, grandchildren and siblings) to the list of people that an employee can use their sick time to care for, imposes notification requirements for both an employer and employee, and more. The following content has been updated to reflect this new development:
- Other Leaves: New York;
- FMLA: New York;
- New Hire Paperwork: New York;
- Employee Discipline: New York;
- Employee Communications: New York; and
