New York Issues Proposed Payroll Card Regulations: Employment Law Manual Updated

Author: Rena Pirsos, XpertHR Legal Editor

The law in New York already permits employers to pay employees with payroll debit cards in addition to cash, check and direct deposit. However, the state labor department has issued proposed regulations that further outline employers' responsibilities when offering payroll cards to employees as a wage payment option.

The proposed regulations will take effect following a 45-day notice and comment period. The Payment of Wages: New York section of the Employment Law Manual has been updated and a new entry has been added to the Legal Timetable.
