Oregon to Prohibit Discrimination and Retaliation Based on Wage Disclosure: Employment Law Manual Updated, Legal Timetable Entry Added
Author: Beth Zoller, XpertHR Legal Editor
Under a new Oregon law, enacted June 10, 2015 and effective January 1, 2016, an employer may not discharge, demote, suspend, or discriminate or retaliate against an employee who has:
- Inquired about, discussed or disclosed in any manner their own or another employee's wages
- Made a charge, filed a complaint or instituted, or caused to be instituted, an investigation, proceeding, hearing or action based on the disclosure of wage information by the employee.
Based on this development the EEO-Discrimination, EEO-Retaliation and Employee Discipline sections of the Oregon Employment Law Manual have been updated and a Legal Timetable entry has been added.
