Pittsburgh Paid Sick Leave Law Invalidated: Various Resources Updated

Authors: Melissa Burdorf, Marta Moakley and Melissa Silver, XpertHR Legal Editors

The City of Pittsburgh's Paid Sick Days Act was to take effect March 11, but in December, a trial court had held that the Act was invalid and unenforceable under Pennsylvania state law. The ruling was not overturned, so the Act never took effect. Therefore, XpertHR has removed content related to the Act from the following Pennsylvania sections of the Employment Law Manual:

  • Employee Communications;
  • Employee Discipline;
  • FMLA;
  • New Hire Paperwork; and
  • Other Leaves.

References to the Act have also been removed from these charts:

  • Leave Laws by State;
  • Paid Sick Leave by State and Municipality; and
  • Pennsylvania Workplace Labor and Employment Law Posters.

Finally, related posters and the Legal Timetable entry have also been updated accordingly.
