Pittsburgh Passes Paid Sick Leave Law: Employment Law Manual, Quick Reference Chart Updated

Pittsburgh has passed a paid sick leave law that applies to all private employers doing business within the city that employ at least one employee. The law will take effect 90 days after the city publishes implementing regulations and a model notice for employers.

The new law will require employers with 15 or more employees to provide up to 40 hours of paid sick leave each year, while employers with fewer than 15 employees must provide up to 24 hours of paid sick leave. However, in the first year after the law takes effect, leave may be unpaid for employers with fewer than 15 employees.

The law includes carryover, employee notice and documentation, employer notice and recordkeeping and anti-retaliation requirements.
