Pittsburgh Requires City and City Contractors to Provide Reasonable Accommodations to Pregnant Employees: Employment Law Manual Updated

Authors: Beth P. Zoller and Melissa Burdorf, XpertHR Legal Editors

Pittsburgh has enacted an ordinance requiring the city and contractors with more than $250,000 in city contracts to provide affected by pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions with reasonable workplace accommodations such as a chair to sit on, uncompensated break time or modified work schedules, unless doing so would create an undue hardship. The ordinance applies to all new qualifying service contracts executed after December 2014.

Based on this development, the Pennsylvania EEO- Discrimination, Disabilities (ADA), FMLA and Other Leaves sections of the Employment Law Manual have been updated.
