Posting Requirement Changes Take Effect in the New Year

Author: Marta Moakley, XpertHR Legal Editor

With every new year, an employer should ensure compliance with changing federal and state notice posting requirements. In order to aid an employer in meeting notice requirements for each and every location in which it operates, a summary of important changes appears in the chart below. For more in-depth coverage, XpertHR provides State Workplace Labor and Employment Law Posters charts for all 50 states and the District of Columbia in its Quick Reference Tool.

A majority of annual poster updates relate to increases in state or local minimum wage rates. For example, as of February 24, 2015, Alaska will have its first increase in about five years following a voter-approved 2014 ballot measure.

However, other changes in labor and employment laws frequently call for corresponding changes in notice postings. For example, Delaware's passage of its Pregnant Workers Fairness Act required a change to the Delaware Labor Law Poster, which was last issued in October. (Delaware's minimum wage will also increase beginning on January 1, 2015.) Illinois added a similar fairness requirement with its new Illinois Pregnancy Fairness Poster.

The Employment Law Manual, the Quick Reference and the Policies and Documents Tools will continue to be updated as additional changes to federal and state notice requirements become effective.
