Seattle has amended its Paid Sick and Safe Time Ordinance. Among the changes to the ordinance is amendment of the definition of covered employees and the expansion of the definition of an adverse action. As a result, the Paid Sick and Safe Time Handbook Statement: Seattle, Washington has been updated.

Employers should note that while the new private right of action becomes available on April 1, 2016, for claims against employers that employ 50 or more employees and on April 1, 2017, for claims against employers that employ fewer than 50 employees, the remaining changes take effect January 16, 2016.
