Effective January 1, 2016, South Dakota's minimum wage will increase by five cents, from $8.50 per hour to $8.55 per hour.

South Dakota's minimum wage is adjusted for inflation each year, as measured by the change in the Consumer Price Index during the 12 months preceding the previous August, and rounded up to the nearest five cents.

As a result of this development, the Minimum Wage Rates by State and Municipality chart, and the Minimum Wage: South Dakota section of the Employment Law Manual have been updated. In addition, a new entry has been added to the Legal Timetable.
