Tacoma, Washington, Issues Paid Leave Rules: Employment Law Manual Updated, Poster Added

Tacoma, Washington, published final rules for its new paid leave ordinance, which takes effect February 1, 2016. The rules clarify various aspects of the ordinance, including:
- Employer coverage;
- Employee eligibility;
- Leave usage;
- Rate of pay;
- Carryover;
- Payment of accrued, unused leave upon termination;
- Leave verification;
- Recordkeeping requirements; and
- Premium pay programs.
The city also published a poster an employer may use for notifying employees of their rights under the ordinance.
In light of these developments, the Paid Leave Poster has been added and the following Washington sections of the Employment Law Manual have been updated:
- Employee Leaves > Other Leaves;
- Employee Leaves > FMLA;
- Recruiting and Hiring > New Hire Paperwork;
- Employee Management > Employee Communications; and
- Employee Management > Employee Discipline.
