Texas to Require State Agencies to Participate in E-Verify: Employment Law Manual Updated, Legal Timetable Entry Added

Author: Melissa A. Silver, XpertHR Legal Editor

Effective September 1, 2015, Texas state agencies will be required to register and participate in E-Verify to verify the employment authorization status of all new employees. This law will override the E-Verify requirements in Executive Order RP-80 and does not extend to businesses that contract with these state agencies. Also, this law makes clear that the law applies only to new hires.

As a result of this development, the Texas Immigration, Form I-9 and Work Visas and Preemployment Screening and Testing sections of the Employment Law Manual have been updated. In addition, a Legal Timetable entry has been added.
