Upcoming Baltimore Affirmative Action Law Added to Employment Law Manual

Two Maryland sections of the Employment Law Manual have been updated to reflect a new City of Baltimore hiring law. Under the ordinance, Baltimore employers benefitting from city contracts of at least $300,000 or receiving city subsides of at least $5,000,000 will be required to take affirmative steps to hire Baltimore City residents.

The ordinance also requires employers to post new jobs first with the Mayor's Office of Employment Development (MOED) before posting them publicly and to file monthly reports with the MOED. Full details can be found in Employee Management > EEO-Affirmative Action: Maryland and Recruiting and Hiring > Recruiting: Maryland. The XpertHR Legal Timetable also has been updated to reflect this development.
