Summary

  • Michigan's Labor Relations and Mediation Act (LMA) promotes the prevention or prompt settlement of labor disputes and provides procedures for voluntary mediation and arbitration of such disputes between private sector employers, employees and/or unions.   • Michigan's Public Employment Relations Act (PERA) sets forth procedures for mediation of labor disputes between public sector employers and employees and/or unions. See Mediation and Arbitration - Public Employers.
  • Public sector "critical service" employers and employees, such as police and firefighters, are subject to compulsory arbitration of contract disputes. See Mediation and Arbitration - Public Employers.
