Hours Worked: Utah

Hours Worked requirements for other states

Federal law and guidance on this subject should be reviewed together with this section.

Author: Wm. Spencer Topham, Callister Nebeker & McCullough

Summary

  • Minors are entitled to meal and rest breaks at certain times. Other employees are not entitled to meal and rest breaks; but if an employer provides such breaks, the time counts as hours worked unless certain conditions are met. See Break Periods.
  • Unlike the federal government, Utah requires employees to be paid for all time during which the employee is required to be on the employer's premises ready to work or to be at a prescribed work place. See Show-Up Time / Reporting Time.
