  • An employer must begin withholding for child support with the first pay period that occurs 14 days after it receives an income withholding order. The employer must remit payments within seven business days after payday. If an employee is terminated from employment, the employer must notify the state. Special notification rules apply when an employee receives a lump-sum payment. See Child Support Withholding.
  • Mississippi law limits the amount of an employee's disposable income that is subject to creditor garnishment withholding. The limits are based on the federal garnishment limits. See Creditor Garnishment Withholding.
  • Individuals with unpaid state taxes may become subject to a tax levy. Mississippi law limits the amount of the employee's disposable earnings that may be subject to a tax levy. See Tax Levies.
