Summary

  • Montana does not require significant additional paperwork for new hires beyond that mandated by federal law. See Documents to Provide to New Employees.
  • Under certain circumstances, Montana employers may be required to provide new employees with notification of their wages. See Payment of Wages Notification.
  • Employers should obtain certain documents from new employees, such as an acknowledgement of receipt of an employee handbook and an acknowledgement of receipt of relevant policies, e.g. sexual harassment policy, drug policy, social media policy, and meal period policy.   • New employees should complete and submit both an IRS Form W-4 and a Form MW-4 to their employer. See Employee Withholding Forms.
