- USERRA is a federal law that provides leave rights for public and private employees with military obligations. Alabama law will apply in instances where it provides greater benefits, protections and/or rights than USERRA. See Private Employers.
- Alabama employers who are counties, municipalities or other agencies or political subdivisions of counties and municipalities should be aware of the additional state law obligations to provide employees a certain amount of paid military leave each calendar year. See Public Employers.
- Students must be allowed to take a military leave of absence and upon their return, be reinstated to their pre-leave educational status. See Students.
