- The Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) is a federal law that provides leave rights for public and private employees with military obligations. Georgia law will apply in instances where it provides greater benefits, protections and/or rights than USERRA. See Private Employers.
- Georgia law also protects individuals who take a leave of absence to participate in assemblies or annual training or to attend service schools run by the US armed forces; members of the organized militia or US armed forces reserves; and National Guard members. See Private Employers.
- Public officers or employees are also entitled to a leave of absence to perform services in the military or to attend service schools conducted by the US Armed Forces (as long as absence does not exceed six months in a four-year period). See Public Employers.
