If an employee has a P.O. Box address, is that an acceptable address for the Form I-9?

It depends. A P.O. Box address is not acceptable on the Form I-9 with the revision date of 03/08/2013 N. An employer may still use this form until January 21, 2017. On that form the address section of the Form I-9 needs to contain the actual location of the employee's residence. If an employee lives in an area that does not have house numbers and street names, then the employee must provide a narrative description of the location of his or her residence.

However, the Form I-9 dated 11/14/2016 N, which must be used by employers starting January 22, 2017, does not contain a prohibition on P.O. Box addresses.
