If an employee has a P.O. Box address, is that an acceptable address for the Form I-9?
Author: Melissa A. Silver, XpertHR Legal Editor
The Form I-9 requests that the employee insert in the address fields his or her street number and name of the employee's current residence. However, if the employee does not have a physical address then the employee should enter a description of the location of the residence, but the instructions do not contain a prohibition on P.O. Box addresses for employees. The instructions do explicitly prohibit employers from providing a P.O. Box address.
