Is a part-time employee eligible for unemployment benefits?

Yes. A part-time employee is entitled to unemployment benefits if he or she meets eligibility requirements, which vary by state. The simple fact that an employee was classified by an employer as part time does not necessarily mean that there is no unemployment eligibility. In addition to other requirements, eligibility for unemployment benefits is based on earnings and length of time worked. For instance, in New Jersey an employee need only have worked 20 base weeks during the previous year or have earnings totaling $7,300.
