Should discrimination and harassment training address transgender status, gender identity and gender expression?

Yes. It is important that all supervisors and employees be trained with respect to transgender status, gender identity and gender expression in order to foster a diverse, compassionate and understanding workforce. Not only should supervisors and employees be trained that discrimination and harassment based on gender identity or gender expression is prohibited, but also to avoid the use of stereotypes, jokes or epithets, which may be offensive and is not appropriate workplace behavior.
