What can be done for an employee whose court-ordered garnishments are an excessive burden?
Author: Ryan F. Donovan
Not much. An employee may become extremely burdened due to an excessive amount of garnishments. It can even cause retention issues with the employee. Despite this, an employer should honor any court-ordered or tax agency garnishment as written unless or until a release is issued by the issuing entity. An employer that fails to honor orders will typically, at a minimum, be held liable for the amounts that were not withheld in error.
