What is a transvestite or cross-dresser?

Author: Beth P. Zoller, XpertHR Legal Editor

A transvestite or cross-dresser is an individual who assumes the dress, hairstyle and manner usually associated with the opposite sex, but does not believe that he or she has the wrong biological and physical parts. Cross-dressing requires that an individual intends to wear the clothing of the opposite gender and does not refer to an individual merely wearing the clothing of the opposite sex.
