What laws prohibit pregnancy discrimination?

The federal Pregnancy Discrimination Act prohibits employers with 15 or more employees from discriminating against employees or applicants based on pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions. Further, many states and municipalities consider pregnancy a protected classification and either explicitly prohibit pregnancy discrimination and harassment or consider discrimination based on pregnancy, childbirth and related medical conditions to fall under the prohibition against sex discrimination.
