What role does HR play in the investigation of a union grievance?

Author: Jessica Sussman

HR should provide support, guidance and advice on all issues regarding union grievance investigations. HR should advise supervisors and investigators on relevant employee relations issues and policies and procedures. In addition, HR should be significantly involved in the gathering of information relevant to the investigation. HR should also assist in the gathering of witnesses' information, including work schedules and contact details and aid in the scheduling of their interviews. Further, HR should coordinate with legal counsel when necessary. It is also helpful for the investigator to use HR as a means to discuss any issues that come up during the investigation.
