When is it appropriate to conduct a medical exam of a job applicant?

Employers may ask applicants to undergo a medical exam after an offer of employment has been extended, as long as the test is done for all applicants in a particular job category and as long as the offer of employment is bona fide - meaning that the job applicant has satisfied all other job prerequisites, such as personal interviews, background checks and all non-medical conditions.
