Mental disorders are common, but widely misunderstood. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, about one in four adults suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder each year.
Additionally, many struggle with substance use problems. Results from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health Mental Health Findings indicate almost half of the Americans who have a substance use disorder also have a co-occurring mental illness. The following steps provide employers with guidance on handling mental health concerns in the workplace.
