Today's workforce is aging as over half of the working population is 40 years of age or older. An employer should be mindful that age discrimination can manifest itself in numerous ways. Stereotyping older employees, passing over older employees for promotions, or refusing to hire older individuals for certain types of positions, are all practices that are prohibited by the Age Discrimination Employment Act (ADEA). Avoiding the pitfalls of age discrimination in the workplace requires HR policies and practices that directly address the intricacies of the employment relationship.
