Podcast: Live From SHRM: Novel Overtime Compliance Tool Can Benefit Employers

One of the nation's leading wage and hour authorities, Tammy McCutchen, discusses a new resource now available through XpertHR that will help employers steer clear of trouble with the Department of Labor's new overtime rules. The rules will roughly double the minimum salary for overtime-exempt employees and are slated to take effect December 1.

The resource, Navigator OT, enables users to answer an online questionnaire and get an immediate answer based on their responses as to whether an employee is exempt or non-exempt from receiving overtime pay. Navigator OT includes applications that apply whatever law where the employee is working and then provides an answer in seconds, according to McCutchen.

McCutchen is managing director of ComplianceHR, which produced the new resource, and an employment attorney with Littler Mendelson. She formerly served as administrator of the DOL's Wage and Hour Division. McCutchen spoke about Navigator OT with XpertHR at the Society for Human Resource Management's (SHRM's) 2016 Convention in Washington, DC. She says many people are wondering whether they will need to reclassify or give wage increases in response to the new rules, and adds that Navigator OT can help reduce their risks.
