Webinar: Bundles of Joy, Bushels of Paperwork: Pregnancy and Postpartum Issues in the Workplace

Kathy Helms, Ogletree Deakins Brian McDermott, Ogletree Deakins

For employers, the anticipation and arrival of bundles of joy are accompanied by an array of legal considerations, from the requirements of the Pregnancy Discrimination Act (PDA) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), to those of the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and state laws (currently there are approximately 10 states that require some form of pregnancy accommodation).

View this webinar, presented by Kathy Helms (pictured top right) and Brian McDermott (pictured bottom right) of Ogletree Deakins, a national labor and employment law firm representing management, where you will get a chance to test your knowledge of how to properly handle a range of issues involving expectant and new parents, including:

  • Accommodating pregnancy-related limitations (e.g., bathroom breaks, providing seating, etc.);
  • Handling leave requests;
  • Dealing with discipline and termination issues; and
  • Accommodating postpartum needs (e.g., lactation, post-partum depression, recovery issues, etc.).

There are also real world scenarios related to these issues and you will gain valuable insights that you can apply to your own workplace. This will include some recommended best practices regarding managing pregnant and new mom employees, such as training supervisors on their behaviors towards pregnant employees and how to document performance issues before disciplining or terminating pregnant employees.
