Summary

  • While there is a general duty under the employment contract to provide a safe system and place of work and to take reasonable care of employees' safety, general health and safety legislation applies only to factories. (See General)
  • Where work is carried out in a factory, the employer must observe a set of statutory rules on health, safety and welfare. (See Duties on employers and employees)
  • Responsibility for monitoring and enforcing compliance with the factory health and safety legislation lies with the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity. (See Enforcement and penalties)
