- The freedom of association provided for in the Constitution includes the right to form or belong to a trade union. (See Trade unions and recognition)
- The collective bargaining process is largely unregulated, unless bargaining breaks down and a "trade dispute" arises. (See Collective bargaining and agreements)
- Employers have no general statutory obligation to inform and consult employees, although statutory information obligations do apply with regard to redundancies. (See Informing and consulting employees - general and Informing and consulting prior to redundancies)
- Statutory protection exists against actions in tort for certain acts committed in contemplation or furtherance of a trade dispute. (See Industrial action)
