Alabama Adopts a "Guns in Parking Lots" Law

Starting on August 1, 2013, employers will not be permitted to ban employees from keeping guns in employer-owned parking lots. The newly signed "guns in parking lots" law allows employees to keep a gun in a privately-owned car if certain criteria are met. +2013 Bill Text AL S.B. 286.

Requirements under this law include having a valid concealed carry or hunting license and keeping the firearm out of ordinary sight.

This law will not allow employees to keep guns in an employer-owned car.

An employer that complies with this law will be immune from civil claims or lawsuits that are brought against it if any firearm is brought onto the employer's property.
