The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has launched a free mobile app aimed at educating employees, unions and employers about their rights and obligations under the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA). The mobile app also provides information regarding the NLRB election process held to determine whether employees want to be represented by a union as well as contact information for NLRB regional offices across the country.

In announcing the mobile app, the NLRB Chairman Mark Gaston Pearce stated, "The National Labor Relations Act guarantees the right of workers to join together, with or without a union, to improve their working lives. The promise of the law can only be fulfilled when employers and employees understand their rights and obligations. With this app, we are using 21st Century technology to inform and educate the public about the law and their rights."

After receiving more than 82,000 public inquiries regarding workplace issues, it was clear that the American people have questions about the law, according to Pearce. "This app can help provide the answers," he said.

According to its press release, the NLRB receives an average of 2,000 unfair labor charges and 200 representation petitions each month. The NLRB also collected more than $44 million in back pay and reimbursement of fees, dues and fines in 2012 and more than 1,200 employees were offered reinstatement as a result of NLRB enforcement action.

The NLRB free mobile app is now available for iPhone users on the Apple App Store and for Android users on Google Play.
