José M. Jara is a principal and the national practice leader for multiemployer plans at Buck Consultants, A Xerox Company.
Mr. Jara has over 20 years of ERISA and employee benefits experience, ranging from class action litigation, governmental compliance, fiduciary liability insurance, to the application of ERISA’s fiduciary standards and prohibited transaction provisions.
Previously, he was the ERISA project managing director in the litigation department of the New York office of Dentons, specializing in: labor and employment law, ERISA and employee benefits, and professional liability insurance (D&O, Fiduciary, and EPLI).
In addition, Mr. Jara has extensive experience resolving issues for corporate plan sponsors and multiemployer plans before the US Department of Labor (DOL), where he was formerly a senior pension law specialist and investigator.
He has a proven track record in negotiating favorable outcomes for clients in connection with DOL investigations and filings with the DOL's amnesty programs.
Mr. Jara serves as a board member for two not-for-profit organizations, where he is also the chairman of the Human Resources Committees.
He obtained his BS from Manhattan College, JD from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, and LLM and Employee Benefits Law Certificate from the Georgetown University Law Center.
