Mark Goodwin is a partner at LeClairRyan and focuses his practice on labor and employment law, including unfair labor practices, labor relations, union organization, strikes and other economic weapons, as well as minimizing employer liability.
Mr. Goodwin joined the firm in 2009 after nearly 26 years as a corporate general counsel, in-house litigator, business executive, and member of numerous boards of directors and commissions.
As a UPS Freight senior vice president, he was responsible for legal matters in Richmond, VA and overseeing legislative and regulatory issues at UPS in Washington, DC, including labor and employment issues.
Mr. Goodwin served as senior management and general counsel at Overnite Corporation and Overnite Transportation and was at the helm of the company's successful effort to maintain non-union status in the face of tenacious union organizing efforts by the Teamsters.
Prior to Overnite, he was the principal labor counsel responsible for Union Pacific Railroad's labor law litigation and relations with 17 separate unions.
Mr. Goodwin has written two booklets with LeClairRyan partner Clint Morse, entitled Maintaining Non-Union Status, the Big Picture and the Nuts and Bolts, published respectively by American Trucking Associations Business Solutions in 2009 and by the Virginia Chamber of Commerce in 2010.
